- kordlessagain 5y agoWhy is it we need to discuss this more? It’s not technical, or interesting. Just a bunch of people gossiping and trying to judge!!
- teddyh 5y agoFrom the HN guidelines: “Please don't complain that a submission is inappropriate. If a story is spam or off-topic, flag it.”
- gruez 5y agoBecause people are interested and want to find out the truth? At the moment it's a he-said-she-said situation, with each side posting their own (probably biased) version of events.
- pvg 5y agoBecause it’s just gawking curiosity, not intellectual curiosity - the latter being what the site is ostensibly about
- derefr 5y agoThe person you're replying to is suggesting that everyone who's "interested and want to find out the truth" here should stop and re-evaluate what utility that gets them, vs what disutility that information-seeking gets the people involved. To put this another way: the paparazzi that chased Princess Diana to her death, did so because there was demand for tabloid journalism.
- scrollaway 5y agoThe people that invested in this affair that doesn't concern them? They need a new hobby. Maybe volunteering at their local vax site for a few weeks could do some actual good instead of trying to play detective just to feel good about themselves pretending they are contributing.
- oh_sigh 5y agoPosting the exact text would be sort of the opposite of gossiping. And it is somewhat important because of the possibility of ycombinator unjustly punishing someone(the other possibility being that ycombinator did nothing wrong and this tweeter just burned his reputation). The beauty of the internet and message boards is that if you don't want to take part in the conversation, you can just leave the page.
- throwaaskjdfh 5y agoThe technical work that a lot of us are involved in is deeply intertwined with the venture capital business. This is a glimpse of how things operate inside of that business.
- ping_pong 5y agoThere are a of questions this topics brings up. It's clarifying whether or not YC is a bunch of white, privileged elitists that have no ethics. Is this behavior endemic within YC? Is YC and dang protecting these founders and trying to brush the behavior under the rug? (the fact that dang isn't hiding the thread bodes well on this aspect) Is this the environment that new founders want to be associated with? Hopefully we can get good answers to all of these. Lots of interesting questions this topic brings up. I don't think it's just gossip. There was another tweet in that thread about another founder getting kicked out of YC because she dared to speak up against another YC founder. So it sort of begs the question as to what is going on behind all these closed doors.
- proxyon 5y agoThis comment is literally extremely racist. Why did you bring race into it?
- lawnchair_larry 5y agoPlease take your racism and concern trolling elsewhere.
