USA Today fights subpoena aimed at readers of Florida FBI shooting story
- 100011_100001 5y agoThis is an interesting problem. On one hand, FBI probably knows that by figuring out the viewers for a specific time they can perhaps catch someone relating to child pornography. On the other hand, if it's allowed it can be abused in the future. It cases like this that I wonder if one-offs should be allowed instead of creating precedent. It's pretty much what happened with charging underage children as adults. Created a precedent and now 10 years olds can get tried as adults. (obviously not a lawyer)
- MeinBlutIstBlau 5y agoThe longer I live, the more I feel like the US government is no different than China. The only difference is if you're really rich you can get out of state scrutiny in the US. The simple fact that we have government agencies that actively and openly wish to spy on us is a joke and a slap in the face to the constitution entirely. There isn't a single right I have and everyone knows it that I can only enforce in court. What's the point in having rights at all if at any moment in time I can be tried for whatever the hell the state wants to charge me with. Like CP for example. The fact that we can't freely express ourselves leads to stronger conservativism among people here because you have to in order to ensure the state doesn't pursue these actions.
