Umm.. this is some serious revision of the history. - People did pay for apps. I along with plenty of other devs happily paid for Sublime Text while not going through an app store. - There have been app stores that predate 'iOS App Store' like the Steam store, people paid for apps in it as well. It is infact cross platform and competes with other app stores. Apple did not invent app distribution or the concept of paid apps.
