Live coding during an interview is a particularly stressful environment that bears little relation to the day to day work of building software. Have you considered that if 90% of your vetted applicants are failing your test that there might be something wrong with your methodology?
- stmfreak 5y agoNope. You can live code with very simple questions. Very simple. Then explore what they wrote and why. If they cannot build rapport and have a conversation with you, how are they going to build rapport and have conversations with the other coders on your team?
- thegrimmest 5y agoOne of my core expectations of candidates is the ability to talk dispassionately and in detail about the code they are writing. If they can't do that then I've found they don't make very good collaborators. Live coding is akin to pairing, which is a common practice.
