Brilliant Visions – Peyote among the Aesthetes (2019)
- 01100011 5y agoMy only experience with mescaline came from an extract of San Pedro cacti(or was it Bolivian Torch?). 12 wonderful hours of open eye visuals with very little body effects, nausea, or thought disturbances. I ate pepperoni pizza, something I'd never attempt on LSD. 10/10 and the Cadillac of psychedelics, without question. But unlike psilocybin, which leaves me mostly energized, or LSD which leaves me a little crazy brained and raw, the cactus left me feeling burned out and slightly... Dumb. It's a feeling that took months to fade away, if ever. I still worry I lost some capacity and I'm worried to try it again. Was it the mescaline, or some other alkaloid still present in my crude extract? I suppose I'll never know, but I'm curious if anyone else ever felt this.
- BrissyCoder 5y agoMe and my buddy in NZ tried unsuccesfully taking San Pedro cacti twice before we made an extract that worked: around six shot glasses each of a deep green viscous liquid that was the most horrible tasting shit I've ever swallowed.
- throwamon 5y ago> around six shot glasses each of a deep green viscous liquid that was the most horrible tasting shit I've ever swallowed That was exactly my (single) experience. At the first sip I thought I'd manage to take it all in. At the third one I was already struggling not to puke. And even worse, I had ZERO effects except for brain fog, dizziness and actually vomiting (very violently) about one hour after the last shot. I'm really hoping I can take one that works soon.

- SyzygistSix 5y agoI wish synthetic mescaline was more available. It seemed to have most of the upsides without the downsides of peyote.

- 01100011 5y agoThanks I'll check that out. I do wonder if there is something specific to the species I used, but I would think the same biological pathway is used to produce mescaline in both species, so other alkaloids would hopefully be the same. One thing I know about the cactus I used: those spines are brutal. I took a couple spines to my hand and thought some of them lodged in my joints. I felt like I had arthritis for months. Apparently that has been reported by others as well, so the species has some unique defense mechanisms.
