It's a Usenet post from the comp.risks newsgroup.
- lisper 5y agoThat doesn't explain the from address. The .news TLD did not exist in 1995.
- tpmx 5y agoLooks like it was an ISP usenet service service at the time: https://groups.google.com/g/van.general/c/jV637wlw7_E/m/UjNeOCOI4OkJ https://groups.google.com/g/van.general/c/jV637wlw7_E/m/UjNe... The post is present in this 1995 digest: http://catless.ncl.ac.uk/Risks/17/31#subj6.2 http://catless.ncl.ac.uk/Risks/17/31#subj6.2
- acdha 5y agoUsenet didn’t do any validation on headers so it could have been either an attempt at spam control (it wasn’t uncommon to download headers but not bodies to reduce network traffic) or possibly that they had an internal news hostname which leaked due to a configuration error?
- jaywalk 5y agoIt's not an email address. Many people didn't use a real address in the header because of spam, and Usenet doesn't really care if it a valid email address or not at a protocol level.
