Any industry that still has unions has potential energy startups could release
- eevilspock 5y agoIn a world that's falling apart at the seams, instead of innovating new fabrics or healthier seams, much of tech is focused on how stretch those seams even more, pulling even more to the side of the haves and away from the have-nots. https://twitter.com/existentialcoms/status/1398408151683137536 https://twitter.com/existentialcoms/status/13984081516831375...
- WalterGR 5y agoHow much of tech?
- fallingfrog 5y agoYes, most of what passes for innovation these days (Uber, Grubhub) are just new ways to undercut labor and are still only profitable if you can expand fast enough to get a near monopoly in your target market.
- fallingfrog 5y agoBut yet monopolies and cutting labor costs are likely to be the main type of innovation that are possible (mostly, there is still technological change happening) due to the ongoing crisis of profitability: https://consciousnessofsheep.co.uk/2021/05/06/a-crisis-of-profitability/ https://consciousnessofsheep.co.uk/2021/05/06/a-crisis-of-pr...
- bryanrasmussen 5y agoI guess the 'still has unions' was cut to follow HN title length rules, but the still has is really funny because by using it PG basically admits that unions have been destroyed by the often predatory processes he profits off of and then with the releasing energy he suggests that those processes should be more precisely targeted to finish off their prey. on edit: clarifying grammar.
- eevilspock 5y agoYeah, I hated cutting it out. Got a better edit? [edit: I figured out a way to keep it and still stay under the limit.]
- bryanrasmussen 5y agothanks, I wasn't complaining about the edit though, just noting the implications.
