My issue with the context menu is "Search [selection] with Google" is in the middle of the context menu, after "Print selection" and "Take screenshot". Why?
I cannot be the only one that uses that functionality 100 times a day at least, and it's so not conveniently placed I used to misclick "View selection source" instead a dozen times a day, and now I'll be taking screenshots or opening the print dialog by mistake. I've been googling a way of rearranging the context menu on Firefox so that selection search is rearranged or has a keyboard shortcut and not _one_ soul has ever mentioned it in the past decade, which is maddening.
One of the reason I use Edge nowadays is that "Search with Google" is the second option, between Copy and "Search with Bing in the sidebar", which isn't ideal, but it's still search.
- cecilpl2 5y agoIt's awful. "Search with Google" is actually the only reason I ever use the context menu. Copy? Keyboard/mouse buttons for that. Select All? Why would I want to do that when I just made a selection? Print Selection? How common can that actually be, to justify being positions above "search the internet for this thing"?? Take screenshot???? Really?? Why does "Inspect Accessibility Properties" get real estate there? That's a legitimate question.
- lulalalalala 5y agoJust want to say "Take screenshot" is the only reason I use context menu.
- gtf21 5y agoYes! Me too and so when a site hijacks right click it's a little infuriating (but I have now learnt the keyboard shortcut).
- sfink 5y agoAlso I think holding shift while right-clicking will show the context menu even if the site hijacks right click. (And for some sites, I'm pretty happy with a custom context menu, so it's good to have both available.)
- anoncake 5y agoIs it just me or is it not obvious that this entry actually does something useful instead of duplicating the OS screenshot feature? An image of the entire page including the part not on screen isn't even a screen-shot.
- 0-_-0 5y agoIf you're a mouse user you can drag and drop the selection to the address bar. If you're a keyboard user you can do: ctrl-c ctrl-t ctrl-v enter
- teddyfrozevelt 5y agoYou can hide "Inspect Accessibility Properties" by unchecking the Accessibility menu in the developer tools settings.
- RheingoldRiver 5y agoYou can use your userchrome.css to apply a background-color selectively to individual context-menu options. I do it for "view background image" and "copy link location," both of which I turn a deep purple. I've found this makes misclicks on these options (which are pretty much the only two I ever use) next to zero.
