Is anybody else thinking about "Rods from God"? Aka orbital hyper-dense kinetic kill weapons? If SpaceEx can launch 10,000 satellite before starship, they can launch thousands of K-Kill rods with Starship.
There is little to no realistic defense against such a weapon. They can have very little electronics and the little they are naturally heavily shielded. The are mostly a chunk hyper-velocity metal that should be fairly immune to laser or missile based defenses.
I guess we have treaties limiting weapons in space. But for how long will these last?
- AtlasBarfed 5y agoBut is a space rock with a thruster a weapon? Technically yes, but so is a car. They can put nominal functionality (a swarm of internet satellite) and have kinetic rod as an "antenna".
- opwieurposiu 5y agoSupposedly Saddam Hussein's air defense was to sleep in a different house each night. I wonder if this would still work in the age of so many cell phones.
