Show HN: Meet Hot(& not so hot) singles(& not singles) near you and make friends
- piyushkhemka 5y agoMaking new friends as an adult is hard. So, I built neartribe to help people find & connect with others online that live near them. The idea is to foster conversations online with people near them which can then hopefully lead to offline, real world friendships. This is a chill video chat site with no agenda. Unlike other social medias there is no pressure to get followers, likes or view counts. Dial in whenever you have some time and talk to people near you about your hobbies. How it works - As a user, you join a room where you will be connected with at most 9 people who live within xx miles of you. (The more people join, the smaller xx becomes) Coming soon - Ability to create topics to streamline conversations (similar to subreddits). Please try it out & let me know what you think. Feedbacks & suggestions are most welcome. TL;dr: Reddit, but video based & only with people near you or say a meetup.com that runs 24x7 online.

- poopmahn 5y agoUpvoting for hilarious and honest title
- yosito 5y ago> Login with Google to start chatting No thanks
- piyushkhemka 5y agoHi @yosito. I am Piyush, developer of the site & completely understand your hesitation. The login is gated with Google to keep the trolls out. I don't want this to become another Omegle where every 2nd person you meet is masturbating on camera. If it helps, no data is shared from your Google login other than your email address which becomes your user-id. We also never email or sell emails EVER.
- yosito 5y ago> We also never email or sell emails EVER You're giving emails to Google, and Google provides you value in exchange. That's selling them.
- ccakes 5y agoNo affiliation with OP or the software > No thanks Feel free to suggest an alternative then. I get your stance and tbh I share it, but a service like this needs some sort of real-world gate. I guess you have a devs attention, how would you implement this?
