Web Annoyances Ultralist – unsuck the web
- zzo38computer 5y agoSticky headers/floating headers: I also like to use the keys to scroll a page at a time. Meta-CSS (which isn't really defined yet, nor implemented) would help to do what they are doing there. I don't like sticky headers and "fixed relative to screen" stuff like that, either. (I don't use the bookmark bar though.) (I also think that vh units should not be used.) Cookie notices: You shouldn't need it. Mostly, cookies should not be needed at all. But if used anyways, the user should customize in the browser settings to enable/disable cookies, limit their duration, and/or to edit specific cookie values. If cookies are used, they ought to be documented somewhere in the web site, but an annoying popup notice or anything like that is not needed; just a simple documentation link with the documentation, like with any other documentation that they may have. Scroll to top buttons: I hate it. If I want to scroll to the top, I can push the home key. Likewise, push the end key to scroll to the bottom. Interstitial: Also bad. But, I like to disable the scripts anyways. Even if enabled, the browser should provide options to fast-forward (including to infinity, and beyond). The feature to get rid of them would then also gets rid of initial fades, CSS animations, and other stuff that is also annoying and that I don't like. Being able to block scripts and cookies is not good enough; is needed the ability for the user to substitute scripts, cookies, request/response headers, etc, by whatever criteria is wanted (e.g. the presence or absence of something, or the URL, or the integrity attribute). And, many other things too.
