What a strange, nasty blog post. I think it should remain on the front page as an example of how not to provide criticism.
The LLVM community is one of the friendliest and most inviting groups I've met in tech. As a newcomer, I've received generous guidance on getting patches accepted, and had great conversations with contributors at the Bay Area meetups. The tone of the article leaves me dumbfounded.
(Edit: The content mostly seems based on the author's similarly disrespectful posts to the llvm-dev mailing list between 2018 and 2020.)
- wyldfire 5y agoThere was a similarly nasty thread on the llvm-dev list recently. I wonder if it was this Stefan Kanthak who started that thread. EDIT: it was! https://groups.google.com/g/llvm-dev/c/rHqbxHuHxVY/m/J8QommzcAwAJ https://groups.google.com/g/llvm-dev/c/rHqbxHuHxVY/m/J8Qommz... EDIT2: the lesson to be learned here is that Stefan might be sharp enough to know great stuff about compiler codegen but if he wanted to make an improvement he is going about it all wrong. It's hard to understand his motivation here.
- w0mbat 5y agoStefan, if you are reading, dude, this nasty hostile approach will ruin your life. Nobody cares if you are right when you act like this. Be nice, submit patches, become a hero.
