The Remarkable Life of Eugène-François Vidocq, Inventor of Modern Detective Work
- sdoering 5y agoI only remember the name from the movie "Vidocq" with Gérard Depardieu from 2001. It was fantasy based on the historic figure. But I liked the visual style of it.
- fmajid 5y agoThere was a classic French TV series Les Nouvelles Aventures de Vidocq with Claude Brasseur and an excellent cast from La Comédie Française, along with a very catchy theme music on the harpischord by Loussier. I don't know if it's on any streaming service, however.
- jhgb 5y agoThere's also the first episode (titled "Stopa", or Footprint) of the West German-Czechoslovak (!) series Dobrodružství kriminalistiky (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0562585/ https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0562585/, The Adventure of Forensic Science), which is a docudrama anthology of forensic science breakthroughs throughout history (often about the first use of a particular technique to solve a case).
- scandox 5y agoThe problem with Vidocq is that the main source of information about him is ... Vidocq.
- zabzonk 5y agoClive James wrote quite a funny article about this guy: https://archive.clivejames.com/books/vidocq.htm https://archive.clivejames.com/books/vidocq.htm
