Shout out to The North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics, of which several states have sister schools. https://www.ncssm.edu/ https://www.ncssm.edu/ Quick summary, it's a public, boarding school that you apply to that has almost every AP course you can think of plus courses beyond AP. Pre-college essentially. I was able to skip two years of an engineering degree by attending. It's not a perfect solution, but it offers a way for students who are ready for college early to transition sooner. It also gives the state an excuse to not offer AP in every county, they can just point to NCSSM as an option.
