Dr. Peter Bryce's report is essential to understand the preventable deaths from disease: https://archive.org/details/bryceonresidentialschools/Bryce%2C%20Report%20on%20the%20Indian%20Schools%20of%20Manitoba%20and%20the%20Northwest%20Territories%201907/mode/2up https://archive.org/details/bryceonresidentialschools/Bryce%...
The Indian Department knew that the schools served as a conduit for the spread of disease from at least 1907 onward. Dr. Bryce was still campaigning to get them to address the issue in the 1920s.
