Computers Will Be Able to Read Images from Your Brain Within a Decade
- andbberger 5y agoI can't stand dreamy pretentious bullshit like this. The fMRI result is cool but when the author gets to talking about extending the result to EEG and neuralink (vomit) he's just making shit up about things he clearly knows nothing about. The great thing about sci-fi is the fiction. You can dream up cool shit you can do with warp drives and that's all well and good because warp drives don't exist. But when you write about shit that is real but you don't understand - that's just tech-bro clickbait hopium. 'Computers will be able to read images from your brain within a decade'. Bullshit. The state of the art in functional imaging is genetically encoded fluorescent sensors with 2 photon imaging. That's not happening in humans. And there's no reason to think fMRI is going to get cheaper or more portable (it might get slightly faster though, with varinf powered inference). And EEG and ephys are obviously unviable for recording from the large numbers of neurons needed to do what the author is talking about. We should never have invented blogs.
