The Problem with Amazon and Open Source Isn’t Amazon
- gardenfelder 5y agoThe arguments made in this piece are a bit difficult, particularly when the author is so assertive; the other way, he says, is 'bullshit'. I cannot buy that. It's easy, at lest for me, to see that he seems to be saying that David should have had conversations with Goliath. I'll agree with his assertion about the "good guys at Amazon" - there are bound to be plenty of them. What I find hard to believe that the "let's talk" should go the way of the small guy holding hat in hand and asking the big guy to collaborate. Shouldn't it have been the other way around? Or is it simply the case that the fact that the big guy quite accidentally sucked the life out of other business models; they didn't see it coming? I don't know what the truth (whatever that means) in this case might be, but this piece, it seems to me, is trying to shift the blame. This topic, in any case, is worthy of a far larger public conversation than can be mustered in this venue; in a sense, I appreciate that the author brought this topic out in the daylight.
