- MikeUt 5y agoNot surprising, but not guaranteed either. It did overturn the previous ruling, and was itself only 2-1, not unanimous. The article mentions that: a Mexican-American resident of Oregon who sued the state over the state's black-only relief fund had her case rejected
- rmk 5y agoPresumably because the money set aside was miniscule and was presumably 'narrowly tailored': After convening several virtual meetings, the civic leaders proposed a bold and novel solution that state lawmakers approved in July. The state would earmark $62 million of its $1.4 billion in federal Covid-19 relief money to provide grants to Black residents, business owners and community organizations enduring pandemic-related hardships. Notably, the black population in Oregon is around 2%, but the amount set aside is slightly over 4%, which may give plaintiffs grounds to challenge the allocation.

Among other provisions, the bill also included 4 billion in USDA agricultural loan forgiveness specific to black and Hispanic farmers. https://www.agriculture.com/news/business/biden-to-sign-bill-with-4-billion-in-debt-relief-for-minority-farmers https://www.agriculture.com/news/business/biden-to-sign-bill...
