- epistasis 5y agoI think Elon Musk would be a far better CEO is there was someone more technical reigning in his promises. Promising to deliver a large battery to Australia's power grid on short notice, over Twitter? Sure. That's great, it's straightforward technology and the use case had been designed. Batteries plot down where lever and can just be weird. Boring holes through earth? Sure straightforward enough. But when it comes to moving large numbers of people efficiently, thats not trivial at all. And even the idea of falling back to cars is preposterous. Cars are not even in the same league as trains, and dropping them in is serious amateur hour. Putting a bunch of small-capacity, wheeled, vehicles that load awkwardly through the tunnel? Disaster.
- Andys 5y agoThere's only one possible way the tunnel can work, which is fully automated carriages (of any kind), plus a 3rd tunnel in the middle just for pedestrian egress during an emergency.
