- WastingMyTime89 5y agoDevelopmental studies definitely show that girls mature faster than boys and tend to display traits making them highly adapted to the school system. From there, basing entrance to high schools solely on grades is basically deciding that women will hold the majority of highly skilled jobs. Anyway, from my point of view, the real question is why is the Japanese school system starting selection so young? At this point, in most countries, students just had to chose between short vocational studies and high schools geared towards entering university and high school selection is mostly done on geographic criteria. It's relatively easy to design a school system which will carry everyone upward. You don't really need gatekeeping.
