We’ve had likes on Instagram hidden in Australia, and maybe NZ for quite some time. Maybe it’s not everyone, but I know my account no longer shows likes on any posts. I was unaware it could be turned off. I don’t really use it much now anyway, but I did like this feature. It was one less metric to be distracted by, you either thought the photo was good, or bad, rather than agreed with others or not. I prefer to make a decision for myself and then see the general opinion. But my Instagram was 80% my friends, unlike some of my close friends who have horrible comparative relationships with people they don’t know on Instagram. And the likes analytics are big part of that. They have since stopped using it, but I feel removing likes counts is a factor in that decision. Instagram story rants are a whole different ball game...
