Only 256gb needed? Why not ramdisk?
- jl2718 5y agoI just went through this. It’s 100x the cost at 1.2x the speed. I’m using the RAM for other ‘research’, but it turns out that trashing consumer SSDs is still the best value because the cost of long-term disk storage is again 10-100x the cost of the SSD you just trashed. Think about it this way. Junk 1TB SSDs cost $100 and get you 300 TB, which costs you $10k to store on magnetic drives. The SSD is just a 1% cost to get your HDD filled 100x faster, which is the most important part of Chia mining right now. When the network size stabilizes, people will just plot on the storage HDD and skip the SSD/RAM.
