C is not a "portable assembly language" even if you really, really want it to be.
- teawrecks 5y agoC++ is?
- Jorengarenar 5y agoIt is not even more
- oconnor663 5y agoI like the arguments here: https://blog.regehr.org/archives/1520 https://blog.regehr.org/archives/1520 > Avoid repeating tired maxims like “C is a portable assembly language” and “trust the programmer.” Unfortunately, C and C++ are mostly taught the old way, as if programming in them isn’t like walking in a minefield.
- FranchuFranchu 5y agoThe way most C compilers and ABIs use the stack kills it imo. But you could tweak a compiler to change that.
- TchoBeer 5y agoWhy not?
- TheOtherHobbes 5y agoBecause there's no such thing as down-to-the-metal portable assembly.
