Influenza is not a coronavirus. The closest analog we have to SARS-CoV-2 in the wild is SARS-CoV-1, where continuing immune response has been well established even in those infected during the initial 2003 outbreak.
- nikolay 5y agoAssuming much? When did I mention influenza?!
- AndrewBissell 5y ago> Or why we are not immune to the flu for life?
- nikolay 5y agoYikes! Sorry, the only reason I mentioned it is that it's an RNA virus like the flu. Is there a study showing immunity to SARS-CoV-2 in people who had SARS-CoV? Can you point to a peer-reviewed study showing lasting immunity to SARS-CoV?
- AndrewBissell 5y ago> But T cell studies allow for a substantially different, more optimistic, interpretation. In the Singapore study, for example, SARS-CoV-1 reactive T cells were found in SARS patients 17 years after infection. “Our findings also raise the possibility that long lasting T cells generated after infection with related viruses may be able to protect against, or modify the pathology caused by, infection with SARS-CoV-2,” the investigators wrote. https://www.bmj.com/content/370/bmj.m3563#ref-8 https://www.bmj.com/content/370/bmj.m3563#ref-8
- nikolay 5y agoIf they are so certain about their statement, why didn't they try re-infecting them?
- AndrewBissell 5y agoIf the vaccine manufacturers are so confident in their effectiveness, why didn't they run challenge trials?
