I recently installed Windows 10 (with generated serial number, which I felt a bit bad about until I discovered that the OS is so embarrassingly bad!) inside VirtualBox so that I could run Mandelbulber3D.
Context: I started with DOS 1.0, eagerly anticipated Windows 3.0, was the master of Windows 3.1, dropped it all the first time I was in front of a battered monochrome Wyse terminal attached to a Unix system, and never looked back.
The Win10 installation process was excruciating. Later, I realized Cortana was probably trying to talk to me through this process... but at no point did the installation ask me whether or not I could hear it. I think that sums it up nicely, but I'll continue: it was a tone-deaf but obsequious, servile system. "Now we are doing X, which will take some time...". Even after the installation, configuring things was a maze of guessing what to click on and suddenly feeling like I was dropping back in time to things I saw in w95. Backwards compatibility of software and user understanding is a tarpit. Sucks to be you, Microsoft.
I could only conclude that the only reason Windows still exists is that so many applications depend on it.
Who cares if it's stable? It's just plain shitty.
