There’s also hot-dip galvanized and stainless steel rebar.
- rsync 5y ago... with stainless being a much better (but much more expensive) choice. HD Galvanized is a coating whereas stainless steel is a different material - it is stainless all the way through ...
- sgtnoodle 5y agoIt's a coating, but my understanding is that it basically creates a battery that keeps the nearby iron from deteriorating. Small gaps in the coating therefore don't really matter as long as there is still some zinc nearby.
- frosted-flakes 5y agoLike zinc anodes on a boat?
- sgtnoodle 5y agoYep, I believe that's the same mode of operation. The definition of galvanic is, "relating to or involving electric currents produced by chemical action."
- redis_mlc 5y ago> stainless steel is a different material First time in my life that somebody said that about stainless steel. "On HN, our job is being pedantic."
