macOS runs an older version of GPLv2 GNU Bash. The newer GPLv3 GNU Bash has much better autocomplete built-in and many useful features (like |& for unified stdout/stderr redirect). Install it like this:
brew install bash
- djrogers 5y agomacOS switched from bash to zsh a few years ago...
- crazypython 5y agoZsh autocomplete is much slower than Bash autocomplete.
- lobocinza 5y agoMay be the setup you used. Too many plugins may make the shell unresposive. Anedoctally I autocompleted `ls /etc/` on zsh with a few plugins and on a bash with minimal setup. They were pretty much instantaneous. Maybe zsh was faster.
