I can’t stand OSX, but I’m pretty proficient. I think the right click is a symptom of you being so used to Windows or linux.
The average user probably never needs to right click. I bought my mum a MacBook Air and she’s never needed to right click in the 4-5 years of owning it.
I think it’s hidden for good reason. She also never asks if she should right or left click. Cos the mouse has 1 button.
- toomanybeersies 5y agoI think GP was referring to the Macintosh of old, where the mice only had a single button, and right click literally didn't exist. You needed to ctrl+click to "right click". You do make a good point though. From a zero-knowledge perspective, using a mouse with left-click for primary interactions and right-click for secondary interactions isn't the most intuitive concept.
- timbit42 5y agoHaving a second button is better than having to double-click.
- http-teapot 5y agoI think you mean two-finger tap? I only use the trackpad and find the two-finger tap far more efficient. I'd never buy the Apple mouse, though.
- Popegaf 5y agoIf you have to fall back to praising inefficiency in order to justify the existence of a "feature", sure then OSX is efficient. I love selecting text, finding the edit menu item, then "copy" in it, going to my target window, clicking where I want, then finding the correct menu item and clicking "paste". Intuitive. And saying somebody hasn't asked about using a second button when all you give them is a single button... come on.
