  The college I went to had air cooled tape drives. For some reason one unit would get too hot and stop working. Solution: Go behind it and flap the large access door a couple of times, and then it would start up and finish a compile. As you were waiting for the printouts it would keep cooling down and do the next job if it was not too long.
