You’re right, they mostly do have to pay their medical bills but everyday treatments are inexpensive, and seeking professional medical attention is given very high priority. In my (10+ year) experience the average Chinese person is far more likely to visit the hospital for a minor complaint than the average Brit (where it’s free).
