- bobthepanda 5y agoHow is healthcare normally delivered in China? At least in the US a fair amount of patients show up at the ER first. The Wikipedia page for healthcare in China says there is a tiered system but also a shortage of primary care doctors in clinics. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Healthcare_in_China https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Healthcare_in_China
- gentleman11 5y agoI haven’t known many people who had to go to a doctor of any kind for a flu who weren’t quite old or with a chronic condition. Perhaps the three people in question were all elderly
- slowmovintarget 5y agoThey were researchers. Doubtful they were elderly.
- flukus 5y agoMost people with the flu will go to the doctor here, if only to get a doctors certificate for the week they'll need off work.

- nimbleal 5y agoIn China, it's not unusual to go to the hospital for a cold. (I find the lab theory credible & worthy of investigation, just pointing out that in China a hospital visit doesn't imply anything about the severity of symptoms).
- hungryforcodes 5y agoIs that true though? I was under the impression that people have to personally pay their medical bills and visits in China, like in large parts of Asia, so generally they'd only go if it was something severe.
- nimbleal 5y agoYou’re right, they mostly do have to pay their medical bills but everyday treatments are inexpensive, and seeking professional medical attention is given very high priority. In my (10+ year) experience the average Chinese person is far more likely to visit the hospital for a minor complaint than the average Brit (where it’s free).
