I grew up in Arizona which has a mixture of conservatives and liberals but tends towards conservative on most issues. Before I moved to SF, homelessness and petty crime were previously unknown concepts to me, and I grew up in a pretty poor part of Phoenix that had a large immigrant population. These problems absolutely affect liberal cities more than conservative ones. I consider myself left-of-center but there is no point lying about this fact.
