It was a massive deal because while Win 3.1 was the only game in town,
Windows hadn't appreciably changed looks-wise for a decade. In the early 90s,
personal computing was big but not quite the basic necessity it is today
because the internet hadn't happened yet. When it did, Win95 represented the
culmination of Internet 1.0 and ten years of overdue change, brought to you by
truly the best computing minds working their butts off in Redmond (those minds
are far more dispersed today). The Weezer avi file blew the doors off my
dorm room.

Or at the very least, it would have become what it is now a lot sooner, with a handful of tech monopolists, pervasive tracking etc. But W95 was pretty great yeah. Much better than 98. Except for the half-baked USB support. 95, 2000 and 7 were my favourites for sure. Out of those 2000 the most. It was the first workable NT desktop, 4.0 was still too compromised. And it didn't have the UI mess of XP or vista. It was clean, lean and fast And the worst? Windows ME of course! That was such a POS. And yeah I remember the Weezer video too. It was so cool, playing video on your computer! Of course it was only available on the CD-ROM version. You could also get 22 3.5" floppies IIRC.
