No wonder it irritates me when some Americans say "duhtail" rather than "deetail" as a noun. They're doing the stress backwards according to this rule.

  And on the other hand, now I understand why Americans say "address" rather than "uhdress" for the noun. I should probably do the same.

    American here. I feel like I’ve heard both ways about equally. I’ve lived all over, so maybe it’s regional.

    The British pronunciation could be influenced by the French word adresse.

    Hmm. Massage as a noun makes more sense as "massahzh" than "muhssahzh".
