Off topic but why do people still write on medium and share on HN? Its paywalled and most people will not be able to read the post

  The author can choose to have articles in front of the paywall. I believe it defaults to behind the paywall, and if you want the Medium aggregators to be able to share your piece, it has to be behind the paywall. Basically the tradeoff is to have better circulation among subscribers or non-subscribers. I always choose the latter.

  You can just open the link in incognito mode! Also, sorry, I guess I should have posted the friend link instead that doesn't ask to subscribe, but I can't change it after posting!
