I was getting desperate for income; sole earner for a family of five. One of my interviews, I totally forgot the syntax to JOIN in SQL. Full on blank. It is like forgetting how to tie your shoes. The second I walked out, of course, the incredibly simple operation came back to memory. They didn’t call me back. Another one: question was how to have a box in the DOM that when you click it, it goes away (back in 2011). Follow up: 10 concurrent users and 10 boxes and if anyone clicks any box, it disappears for everyone. Both were easy. Next follow up: 1 million users and 1 million boxes. I had to admit that that was an entirely different problem and much harder due to $reasons and I wouldn’t know how to do it and would have to seek help. Figured I’d doomed myself; however I got the job.
