- MattGaiser 5y agoIt seems to be in some places like California. https://www.shouselaw.com/ca/labor/harassment/political-retaliation/ https://www.shouselaw.com/ca/labor/harassment/political-reta...
- foota 5y agoInteresting, I didn't know that! I wonder whether restricting the expression of only political topics at work infringes on this.
- stephc_int13 5y agoWow.
- shock-value 5y agoIt literally isn’t. The phrase “protected class” has a specific legal definition in the United States. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protected_group#United_States https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protected_group#United_State...
- PeterisP 5y agoYeah, it isn't, but that's a bit surprising since in many other places the same specific legal definition explicitly does include political affiliation for obvious reasons e.g. so that the employers couldn't fire someone for being a member of some labor rights or communist party or even a candidate from them.
- gnopgnip 5y agoIt is in several states including CA and NY, where most tech firms are located.
- throwaway3699 5y agoLegality is not the same as morality. Remember that slaves were not a protected class at one point. A coarse analogy, I admit, but it's true: we can change this to include politics if necessary.
