Saying "I am not a supporter of gay marriage" in passing is very different than writing a book publicizing an opinion that gay people are somehow inferior to straights.
A more applicable comparision would be someone who publicized that they thought that gays were weak minded. I wouldn't say you should 'cancel' that person (what does that mean?), but I would say that person should be disqualified from the opportunity to lead a team that includes gay people. And any business should always assume that their team could include gay people.
- bob33212 5y agoSo what should happen to someone who doesn't support gay marriage? Can they be a leader?
- jonfw 5y agoThat seems irrelevant, unless your company weds people
- ausbah 5y agoit is very relevant because it is an opinion that implies they view one set of people less than another set of people which has implications for things like biased hiring, promotions, workplace relationships, etc. and this is not the sort of thing that can be "disproven" by past actions, because it still implies the potential for workplace discrimination as someone who is LGBT+, I would never be able to work with a manager or coworker who expressed views like this for this reason
- jonfw 5y agoI'd like to leave some room for those with strong religious beliefs who practice tolerance to still be leaders. If your belief is that failing to support gay marriage is in itself an act of discrimination, than I could see how you would reach a different conclusion.
