I interviewed at a hedge fund with their CTO. I expected a certain class of question since this was just the first phone call, but I was blindsided by the breadth of the questions asked. It was one of the most painful interviews I’ve ever done since I repeatedly bombed questions for almost an hour. Apparently I did better than some other candidates but it seemed like they were looking for someone more senior. However my interviewer still sat through the entire interview and also explained the answers for a lot of the questions.
It ended up being one of the best interviews I could have had since it taught me my weak points. I was able to brush up on them and went on to get multiple offers a couple of weeks later.
Bombing interviews can be a learning opportunity.
It’s only really an issue if you’re really invested in the company you’re interviewing with.
