Does anyone know what it's called in India, in any Indian language. I ask since it looks like it's native to India but I'd never heard of long pepper before this article and now I'm intrigued..
- ravedave5 5y agoThe wikipedia article indicates this Hindi article for it https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_pepper https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_pepper https://hi.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%A4%AA%E0%A4%BF%E0%A4%AA%E0%A5%8D%E0%A4%AA%E0%A4%B2%E0%A5%80 https://hi.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%A4%AA%E0%A4%BF%E0%A4%AA%E0...
- yumraj 5y agoThanks. The Hindi translation simply seems to use the name pipli mentioned in the English. Pipli sounds familiar but I can't place it for sure. I'll have to ask folks back home..
- hawk_ 5y agowe call it peepal (as in peepal ka ped)
- Neurocynic 5y agonope. pippili (Indian long pepper) is a vine/creeper and a completely different family from Peepal (sacred fig)
- selimthegrim 5y agoI believe cubeb in Hindi is often conflated with long pepper

- nieve 5y agoA couple of sources say it's pippali in Hindi, but I can't confirm that.
- yumraj 5y agoYes, that is what the Wikipedia says as pointed by other person in the sibling post. The word sounds familiar but i can’t place it. It seems it was just not used in our family. You learn something new every day..
