- mattbk1 5y agoGood old Act 60.
- akvadrako 5y agoThe Upper Valley in western NH (where I'm from) also kind of seceded to Vermont for a short while: https://www.flowofhistory.org/the-rebellion-in-western-new-hampshire-and-the-lt-proposed-union-with-vermont-1776-1784/ https://www.flowofhistory.org/the-rebellion-in-western-new-h...
- ilamont 5y agoAnother weird border situation played out in the "Oblong" where a botched Colonial land survey created a kind of no-man's land between New York State, Connecticut, and the southwest corner of Massachusetts. How it got resolved related to an utterly bizarre incident in the 1850s. https://anchor.fm/lostmass/episodes/The-Lost-Corner-AKA-Hells-Acre--The-Oblong--Etc--E14-eonb5p https://anchor.fm/lostmass/episodes/The-Lost-Corner-AKA-Hell...
- asdff 5y agoMichigan and Ohio once went to war over Toledo.
- kfprt 5y agoEach tried to make the other take it....
- christophilus 5y agoLittle known fact: the bullet holes from that skirmish is where we get the phrase “Holy Toledo”.
- thehappypm 5y agoThat's so interesting. Killington is the site of the largest ski resort in the East (by most measures) and an awesome vacation spot. It is completely in the center of Vermont, almost the geographic center. Moving to New Hampshire is a hilarious idea, one expressly forbidden -- states cannot be non-contiguous like that, land areas can only be separated by water (see Michigan).
