This has some great ideas. I particularly like the "we want this" reverse Kickstarter and separating back and front ends on desktop. On the second one, it would be great if there was a standard for richer interface interaction where you basically had a full rpc interface for the backend, and the frontend used that interface to do things like create a command line interface, or create a gui, or various other more specific different interfaces. The trick is: how do you incentivize programmers to design this way more up front? And it course package based programming is a must, just like modular programming.
