Could there be a valid reason for this ? For example: A trend may be appearing where hackers gain control of the GPUs of unsuspecting users and then mine crypto in the background. The GPU uses more power and slows down given the user a bad experience. Nvidia wants to decrease the value of such hacks and decided to cripple the hardware. Similarly reducing the incentive for employees to mine with company equipment and electricity.
