The only way to win is to yank the entire UX system out of their hands and make apps that actually work for the average user.
Ironically, the historic kings of bad UIs, Microsoft, is making great headway with Project Reunion (the parent project of .NET 6's non-Windows support, WinUI3, and MAUI), and producing a pretty reasonable system that looks modern, acts modern, and doesn't jam some half-baked system down your throat...
... and it works on Android. And iOS. And OSX. And, of course, Windows. Even if you're a classic C/C++ guy, even if you want C# everywhere, even if you're using Javascript (Blazor Desktop is shaping up to be a pretty decent Electron killer), your existing paradigms should be able to take advantage of one good UX system that will look and act modern for a decade.
