Android12: Designed for You
- dartharva 5y agoI wonder how many times they'll keep changing the UX until they finally land on a consistent design.
- quyleanh 5y agoInfinity, in my opinion. Because the UI and UX is not something fixed. It changes by time and by people's evolution.
- DiabloD3 5y agoNever. The only way to win is to yank the entire UX system out of their hands and make apps that actually work for the average user. Ironically, the historic kings of bad UIs, Microsoft, is making great headway with Project Reunion (the parent project of .NET 6's non-Windows support, WinUI3, and MAUI), and producing a pretty reasonable system that looks modern, acts modern, and doesn't jam some half-baked system down your throat... ... and it works on Android. And iOS. And OSX. And, of course, Windows. Even if you're a classic C/C++ guy, even if you want C# everywhere, even if you're using Javascript (Blazor Desktop is shaping up to be a pretty decent Electron killer), your existing paradigms should be able to take advantage of one good UX system that will look and act modern for a decade.
- exabrial 5y agoUI is sorta like art. The same thing gets boring after while.
- hulitu 5y agoYou nailed it. That's why is not usable. Because it is art. We don't need engineers in Computer Science . We need artists.
- Spivak 5y agoThe UX for Android hasn't majorly changed in quite a while This is a UI refresh with is pretty much a seasonal thing. Turns out a fresh coat of paint really does make things feel shiny and new. I know the HN crowd doesn't really enjoy the semi-annual refreshes but I'm a sucker for them. I love the more muted and vintage tone they've got going on. I think it's got really good vibes.
- exabrial 5y agoIf it's designed for me, can I block all traffic to Google? Or only opt for which things I want to store history on, instead of requiring my web history, location history, to perform a stupidly simple task like reading a text aloud while I'm driving, or subscribing to a podcast in their app?
- willio58 5y agoAs a long time iOS user, I have to say I’m liking the changes to android. It’s still not on par with iOS in my opinion but progress is being made. I still don’t get little things like inconsistent app icon shapes.
- parrilli 5y agoAndroid looks more and more like a VTech learning toy.
