The "behind the scenes" blog post linked in a sibling notes that they've architected the Linux release with a headless backend component that they'll be moving every client to use. So while there will be HTML-based clients with Linux and browser extensions, I think there's a decent chance of greater feature parity across platforms with native clients in the future too.
