> Apple last fall started replacing Intel processors in the iPhone and iPad with the house-designed M1 chips, which eat less power and let the mobile devices run the same apps as Macs.
Say what now?
- jtdev 5y agoIt’s difficult to feel sorry for big media when they put forth so little effort…
- speps 5y agoThey mean phones and Macs now both run ARM chips... Doesn't mean same apps of course.
- mastazi 5y agoActually the part about the same apps is true https://www.macrumors.com/how-to/install-any-ios-app-m1-mac/ https://www.macrumors.com/how-to/install-any-ios-app-m1-mac/ The problematic part of that quote is where it claims that iPhones and iPads used to have Intel processors.
- klohto 5y agoBut it's not. macOS allows you to run iOS apps, not vice-versa.

- katmannthree 5y agoReally makes you wonder what other statements there are outright false. Prior to Apple's own ARM chips iPhones used Samsung processors. Interestingly though, Intel did at once point make very nice mobile CPUs (notably the XScale PXA270, which clocked in at a little over 500 MHz and had a halfway decent PowerVR graphics accelerator).
- danaris 5y agoI mean, this is coming from Bloomberg. Y'know, the outlet that still hasn't retracted, apologized for, or in any way acknowledge the fact that their "Big Hack" story was a giant steaming heap of bullshit.
- r00fus 5y agoMy iPhone7+ had an Intel baseband chip.
