7nm capacity is likely to be tapped out for the new couple years. The OP's suggestion (I believe) was literally just to keep making older 12nm cards (no backporting) to supplement current supply.
Normally this would... not really work well. But in the current environment, it'd probably work just fine (just look at how much GT 1030s go on sale for...)
