Ransomware Hackers Claim to Leak 250GB of Washington D.C. Police Data
- cyberpunk 5y agoOoups. I don’t see a good end for these folks. I mean, the technical level of these randomware pushers is very low, few of them understand the code they are using, they can still make millions targeting wisely, but these idiots go after a police force in a country with one of the most militarised police forces in the world? I have no sympathy for them when they are caught tbh.
- meowface 5y agoThey're in Russia (and potentially neighboring countries), though. They'll almost certainly face absolutely no repercussions from anyone or anything. That's why they're doing it. Russia's policy is to not prosecute or address these unless Russian (or sometimes allied) citizens are affected.
- cyberpunk 5y agoYeah for now, no one can predict the future though and who knows when things may change in Russia.
- fuzzylightbulb 5y agoWhat makes you think anyone involved will experience any consequences here? Do you think that Russia is going to help some US municipality identify and then extradite these "ransomware pushers"? And the fact that a local police department has surplus military gear doesn't even mean that they can use in in the next town over, let alone an ocean away. The "hackers" are about as safe as can be. Now if international relations completely flipflopped and it suddenly became Putin's prerogative to cooperate with the West, then they'd be in trouble. But the odds of that happening any time soon are basically zero.
- cyberpunk 5y agoA lot of them get caught by stupidity also, like going in holiday to the EU or such. They have a target on their backs, doesn’t seem worth it to me..
- vmception 5y agoInteresting Where is the link? edit: they have a dedicated leaking platform offered to all: babukq4e2p4wu4iq.onion
