There have been quite a lot of protest bans since the beginning of the pandemic. They essentially broke the Yellow Vests's momentum. People grumble about it, but there's a general understanding that (A) the government can and does ban protests that it deems dangerous for public order (B) whether a protest is allowed or not has very little impact on how it proceeds.
